BuffelspoortBuffelspoort is one of the ATKV group of holiday resorts. The audit company where a friend works arranged to have their annual company weekend here. We left for the 120km drive to North West province at about 16:00 on Friday afternoon, and had to fight our way through the center of Pretoria city in peak end-of week traffic. We only arrived at our chalet at about 19:00.

First thing we tried out was the massive under roof coal-heated swimming pool. Being winter, and the pool water at about 38 degrees Celsius, this sure was the place we were also going to try out most for the rest of the weekend. There are other large swimming pools outside – a freezing cold one with a water slide and a second heated one, which is at about 30 degrees Celsius – good for daytime swimming only.

BuffelspoortAfter company sponsored Saturday breakfast in the restaurant, we took a walk through the caravan park, along the stream that flows through the resort, past the golf driving range and past the duck and swan ponds.

Saturday evening we had one of the thatch roof lapas all to ourselves and we had a big braai and kuiered with drinks and chips till late. Then those of us who could still walk headed to the heated pool until it closed.

Sunday was lazy and we each had breakfast in our own chalet. Some people with headache from last night decided its best to leave early, but we stayed in the pool a bit and then fed candy paper wrapped rocks to the group of monkeys that was playing outside our room. I’m lucky it wasn’t my Mercedes who’s antenna got bent down like that!
