About this blog

Southern Africa hides amazing places, some so perfect, it might have been though out by a comity. Still, the information available about these places are limited. This blog will share what I discover while hiking, sailing, camping, bird watching, test driving cars or doing anything that weekends were made for!

The blog and me

Taaibos HikeMy name is Thinus, I ┬álive in Centurion, Pretoria, South Africa, and love going on outings! To find out more, read this blog, and visit my homepage at www.thinusbotha.co.za. I’ve been warning to start this blog for too long now. At last, its up, but I have so many photos to show and stories to tell. I know, I’ll always be behind!

Navigating and the links

The posts show the correct date for the trip, even if I write them weeks after it happened. (Cheating, I know, but it makes searching easier). This means that new reports won’t necessarily be the top ones. To navigate this site, use the links on the side to choose entries by province, date or category. Clicking anywhere on someone’s name (should) show all the outings where that person went with.

GPS tracklogs

In the blog entries, I provide GPS coordinates that link to Google Maps. I have full GPS recorded track logs of all the trips, with points of interest marked. If you are interested in these, leave a comment, and I’ll share what we have collected.

Share your thoughts

Let us hear from you and what you think about this blog or the places we go. Especially when you’ve been on a trip with us. Please add a comment to the specific post and tell everyone how you experienced it. Even if you just say “I was there!”

Suggest something

This page is where we discuss ideas for future outings. Leave a comment here to suggest any place that we should go and check out, or to invite yourself on the next trip. We are always looking for new and exciting places to go for a weekend (or longer).

Please come again

Bookmark this site and check back regularly, or best still, subscribe to the feed so you won’t miss anything.

Thank you for your interest.
Hope to hear from you.

Can you help please? My friend in her garden and me in mine – Victory Park Johannesburg and Emmarentia, Johannesburg – have seen lime green parrot- type birds in the trees. We cannot for the life of us work out what they are. Anyone have any idea? No markings in other colours.. long tail like a mousebird. Thank you

    Hi Thinus!

My naam is Johann(oom vir jou) 62 jaar-something, Wens ek was waar jy is.”So much to discover and so little time”.
